The Tree Stump Specialist

ROBERTS

So then, How does a Tree stumper remove the tree stump....

They can use the traditional methods of a spade and patience, you can winch stumps out....or the ultimate perhaps, drill a few holes, pop some explosives in and blow the stump to bits. this is was advocated in the the old days.....I think they had a bit more space then!.

These days your friendly Tree Stump remover will use a stump cutter or grinder. There are many manufacturers of Stump cutters. These days’ manufacturers seem to agree that a spinning wheel with cutting teeth is the method of removing a tree stump. It is means a manageable process that is clean, does not cause vibration and will not put pressure on structures around the stump. Most machines have the same basic layout for the cutting wheel, with a spinning disc rotating vertically in line with the machine. On this cutting wheel are bolted cutting teeth, the exact positioning of these teeth on the disc edge are critical for good cutting performance.

Here are some pictures of cutting wheels and links to companies that manufacturer cutting teeth.

As you can see below, the machines can look quite different; obviously the physically larger machines are generally more powerful, less manoeuvrable but easier on the operator, enabling the operator to grind more quickly and with less physical effort. It stands to reason then that the smaller stump cutters are more manoeuvrable and more demanding on the person controlling it.
